Eastern Cape Regional Manager

Dr. Heather Rauch

Heather has been doing sessional work for ADASA since 2007 and was appointed as Regional Manager for ADASA Eastern Cape Region in 2014. Heather obtained her BA (SW) in 1987; her MA (Clinical) SW in 1991 and her DPhil (SW) in 2000 all at the then University of Port Elizabeth (UPE). She seasoned as the founder social worker of the Child Abuse Unit at Childline (1989) until she entered private practice in 1995.

In private practice, Heather focuses on psychosocial matters relating to families. She also assisted with the training and supervision of FAMSA staff. She acts as a mediator for the Children’s and High Court. She was a research and practice supervisor for 4th-year social work students at Nelson Mandela University. Heather serves as Chairperson to SAASWIPP Eastern Cape and a member of their National Executive.

The establishment of a multi-professional assessment and diagnostic clinic run by 4 volunteers was a dream come true. The generosity of the team allowed for a coordinated assessment and supportive approach that became the Region’s flagship project. Sadly, the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns interrupted the clinic service. However, it has provided the Region with an opportunity to reassess this service and revise the model. The revised model will incorporate a Multi-disciplinary Team and a community-based approach.

Heather is passionate about the needs of people living with dementia, their family members, and their caregivers as well as the urgent need for community awareness raising.
